hERE ARE THE SOME THE UNIQUE AND TYPICAL ANIMALS FOUND IN THE NORTHERN CANADIAN TUNDRA
In the Northern Canadian Tundra, we can find animals such as the : polar bear, snowy owl, ermine, artic fox, caribou, harlequin duck, musk ox and the grizzly bear.
SnoWY OWLThe snowy owls white plumage helps it coat and camouflage with its environment. Its feathers and skin is very thick letting it stick around 40 degrees C even when the temperature is -50 C. Very good hearing ability enabling it to find prey really easily. |
ERMINETheir claws enables them to burrow underground to find prey and hide. They have very flexible bodies letting them move around really silently. It also has a white coating to camouflage to its environmental state. |
POLAR BEARPolar bears do not actually have white fur, it is in fact see through, it gets it colour from the reflection the snow and sun. Polar bears also have a thick layer of fat to keep it warm. Its fur is also thick to help it keep good temperature |
Predators and Prey
Relationships
At the top of the food chain lies the predators. Some the predators are aerial some of them go by foot. Polar can go by foot or by water. Some of the relationships in tundra are : the wolves and the caribou, the wolves eat the caribou for energy and the caribou eat plants for their energy. This relationship can end however because the caribou are loosing some its food sources. Another relationship is the polar bear and the artic foxes, the polar bear eats the fox and the fox eats small rodents both for energy. The last relationship is all the herbivorous mammals which relate with the different types of plants in this biome. And same goes for the main example except this time with Artic Fox pups and lemmings.

Species at riskGlobal Warming
The endangered species in the tundra are: the polar bears, the caribou, artic fox and the musk ox. They are endangered because their loss of habitat and food supply. Also some of the human acts are due to their loss because of our mining and oil gathering. Another reason to their loss of population is due to hunters. And finally the global warming melts the ice leaving polar bears to be swimming for long periods of the time.

invasive speciesOverpopulation
Some of the geese in the tundra ruin their environment because of their over population because their aren't any prey lurking to get them and therefor overpopulate majority of the tundra. Another is that the red wolves came to the northern tundra and it feeds on a lot of small mammals in fact too much that the prey began to loose a lot of its population.

food webHumans at the top?
In the food web we above we have a small portion what our food web actually is. In fact at the very top of the web, we humans lie for being animal hunters. And as the list drops we see the predators, the prey and so on.
